Fabulous enough to pass for couture

As the distaste for fast fashion continues to grow, so too does an appreciation for the exquisite craftsmanship and immense skill which goes into creating beautiful clothes. This week already saw Chanel reveal an entire building dedicated to fashion's master craftsmen and the Métiers A'art – and now, Zara has launched its own in-house label which focuses on high-end design and artisanal skill.

The aptly named Zara Atelier collection will drop two, limited-edition collections a year which offer an 'elevated, artistic interpretation of an iconic wardrobe staple' in what is essentially the high street brand's homage to couture.

The first Zara Atelier collection dropped on Friday, December 10, consisting of six elegant coats featuring opulent embellishments. The looks were captured beautifully by none other than the iconic Italian fashion photographer Paolo Roversi.

'The first capsule takes coats as its subject – and gives them the decadent treatment,' the company said in a statement.

'Spanning dreamy, decorative cocktail coats for evening and densely-worked poncho and overcoat styles for day, the six-piece outerwear capsule is replete with couture touches – a marabou-trimmed collar here, a sequin-embroidered lapel there – mixed with modern, wearable shapes.'

The capsule of Zara Atelier coats, which has been produced in very limited quantities, is crafted from premium fabrics and further elevated with opulent details including satin piping, marabou feather trims, intricate embroidery and elegantly sparkling sequins.

The result? Genuine show-stoppers, fabulous enough to be worn as outfits in themselves and designed so beautifully as to pass for genuine high fashion. New winter coat, sorted.
